HOW IT WORKS

What Is Ink & Roll Fingerprinting?

Ink and roll fingerprinting is the traditional way to capture fingerprints for cross-referencing with police and governmental databases. Fingerprints are taken by rolling the fingertips in ink and then rolling them across a pre-prepared card, with care taken to roll each finger from one side of the nail to the other.

While most applicants can use digital fingerprinting, traditional ink and roll prints are required for foreign criminal record checks (including FBI checks), certain high-level Canadian security screening, and for individuals whose fingerprints are of too poor a quality for electronic submission.
